RASHES & SKIN INFECTIONS

Athlete’s Foot

None

Chickenpox

5 days from onset of rash

Cold sores

None

Rubella

6 days from onset of rash

Hand, Foot & Mouth

None

Impetigo

Until lesions are crusted and healed, or 48h after starting abx

Measles

4 days from onset of rash

Molluscum contagiosum

None

Ringworm

None

Roseola (infantum)

None

Scabies

Child can return after first treatment

Scarlet Fever

Child can return 24h after starting appropriate abx treatment

Slapped Cheek (5th disease)

None

Shingles

Exclude only if rash in weeping & cannot be covered

Warts & Verrucae

None

 

DIARRHEA & VOMITING

Diarrhea &/or vomiting

48h from last episode of diarrhea or vomiting

E coli O157

48h from last episode of diarrhea

Further exclusion may be required for some children until they

are no longer excreting

Typhoid & Paratyphoid (enteric fever)

Shingella (dysentery)

Cryptosporidiosis

48h from last episode or diarrhea

 

RESPIRATORY INFECTIONS

Influenza

Until recovered

Tuberculosis

Always consult local HPU (011785 221158/01785 221126)

Whooping cough

5/7 from starting abx or 21/7 from onset of illness of not on abx

 

OTHER INFECTIONS

Conjunctivitis

None

Diptheria

Exclusion essential.  Always consult HPU

Glandular fever

None

Head lice

None

Hepatitis A

Exclude until 7/7 after onset of jaundice or sx onset if no jaundice

Hepatitis B,C, HIV/AIDS

None

Meningococcal meningitis /septicaemia

 

Until recovered

Meningitis – other bacterial cause

Viral Meningitis

None

MRSA

None

Mumps

Exclude for 5 days after onset of swelling

Threadworms

None

Tonsillitis
